There are plenty of places to study on campus when someone wants a change of scenery from the library. The dorms are not bad to study in. They are good when you need a quiet space or are worried about being interrupted. Still, overall, Jefferson offers a variety of buildings that are amazing to study in without the distracting temptations that arise from being in your own room.
The DEC Center
DEC is one of the more popular study areas on campus. The building has three floors that each have great study spaces. This excludes the fourth floor, which is the Dean of Students’ office. The first floor has secluded classrooms on the side next to the lecture hall. The second floor has an office area with restaurant-like tables and seats. They are comfortable and give someone enough space to fit all of their books and materials. The third floor has more classrooms and smaller lounge spaces near the end of the hall. Each floor has different environments for what works best for you and your study habits. However, the office area is what makes DEC such a popular study spot.
Tuttleman Center
A building with more classrooms for studying is the Tuttleman Center. However, there is also an area on the second floor of the building with two couches and a table that overlooks the outside of the building with the water fountain. The area is usually crowded during the day, but it is a quiet spot to study past 7 pm.
Ronson Health and Applied Science Center
The newest building on campus, and a beautiful one at that, is the Ronson Science Center. Every floor has at least one lounge with tables and chairs. Some floors can have more than one as well. The building has brighter colors compared to Hayward, which makes it easier to feel motivated and keep your focus. However, it is a more popular hangout area than a study spot, so it can tend to be louder. It is best to be mindful and pick a quieter spot in a less busy hallway or use an inactive classroom.
Kanbar Campus Center
Kanbar’s second-floor lounge is also a popular place to study. It has a variety of seats and table options, from couches to barstools. The barstools are a more popular place to study, while the rest of the lounge is usually more sociable, allowing for breaks between studying. Ted’s and Common Thread are in the same building, too, and they have plenty of study snacks to help keep focus!
Ravenhill Mansion
Ravenhill Mansion only has a small number of classes taught in this building; it is both beautiful and quiet. The main way to get into the mansion is by going through the middle of Mott and Fortess. It has a few decent-sized classrooms with chalkboards that can be used as study aids.
There are many spots on the Jefferson campus that can enhance your study experience. Do not forget to explore the campus as much as possible and find your best study spot!
