The Power of Music

By Sarine Kaprielian

There is nothing like driving on the highway while blasting your favorite song and singing at the top of your lungs. There is also a comfort with laying on your bed listening to classical music. There is music for happy times, sad times, celebrations such as weddings, or times that you want to dance it out in a club or in your bedroom. You can play Bad Bunny if you feel like dancing, Billie Eilish if you are low, or you might play Taylor Swift's Reputation album when feeling a little feisty. There is music available for every mood and occasion, made by different voices and perspectives.

Music helps people feel like they are not alone. In a world full of billions of strangers we can all share experiences, which we can learn about through music. Whether an artist is going through a breakup, and a toxic relationship, having depressive episodes, or just having fun in life, we can feel that through their music and we can make a connection with them or have a better understanding of who they are.

I remember very vividly, at 2am one night I randomly watched the genius video that Billie Eilish did for her song “Idontwannabeyouanymore” and every time she explained a lyric of the song I was thinking to myself about how I was going through the exact same things that she was describing. There is something very calming and reassuring when knowing that someone else is going through the same thing you are, whether you know the person or not.

Music is an outlet that this world needs. It is such a creative way to put thoughts into words and helps people relate to one another. In this world that seems to be full of negativity and darkness, music helps push the light through.
